Quite simply, BiblioLux is a personalised book subscription service. I, Julia Di Cicco, am your matchmaker. My goal is to help you fall in love as many times as you desire, introducing you to books that make you giddy, make you think, make you do whatever it is you love doing most. I lovingly curate books for your reading pleasure.

BiblioLux was planted in my mind when I rediscovered my love of reading.

Sitting beside my husband mid-flight over the New Zealand countryside, I was struck by his stillness as he read. The way his hands caressed the pages of his book filled me with a new kind of desire. I wanted to feel that serenity. I wanted to plunge wholeheartedly into a parallel, fantastic world. Perhaps it was the sunlight bounding from the clouds, surrounding us in angelic illumination, but I felt a deep yearning awaken within me. Upon arriving at our destination, I picked up a book and haven’t stopped reading since.

Having struggled to read since graduating from university, reading again felt as if I had plunged myself into a pool of fresh water after a long trek through the desert. I just needed to find a way to choose books I knew I could read all the way through. So many times I had tried, realising half an hour in that I had read the same paragraph half a dozen times. During that flight I could see that books are akin to soulmates (judging by the expression on my husband’s face as he read). I just needed to find my book ‘match’.

As I have cultivated my reading ardour, I find that I love selecting books as much as I love reading them. A certain book at one moment may alter one’s entire perspective on life where a year ago, that same book could have contracted a fatal case of yawning. Where we are in our lives, our desires, our motivations, are essential when it comes to making connections that illuminate facets of ourselves that otherwise would remind hidden. Reading is one of the most intimate things we do and we do it in solitary silence. We are connecting to another person’s very mind, communicating through ideas displaced by time. The way one person reads a book depends on their frame of mind; the same book read twice is not interpreted as the same book. My passion is sharing books and a love of reading.
